What began as urgent flood remediation after Cyclone Gabrielle evolved into a full-scale renovation — a project that now stands as a bold example of transformation through quality craftsmanship and client collaboration.
Located in the rural township of Otāne, the Elsthorpe Road project marks a significant milestone for CJS Carpenters. Initially engaged to repair extensive water damage caused by the February 2023 cyclone, the scope quickly grew as the homeowners saw an opportunity to reimagine and futureproof their home.
The renovation included a stunning new kitchen, the addition of a third bathroom, a complete renovation of the existing bathrooms, a full lighting upgrade, and the installation of beautifully polished concrete floors throughout. Every detail was carefully considered to strike the perfect balance between functionality, resilience, and timeless design.
This project is a clear reflection of our commitment to delivering high-quality, thoughtful renovations — even in challenging circumstances. From disaster recovery to a complete reinvention, the result is a warm, modern, and highly liveable home that we’re proud to have brought to life.

“We first met Cam when he and his partner walked up our driveway and offered to help us with cleanup after Cyclone Gabrielle. It was a good example of Cam’s willingness to go the extra mile which we saw throughout our project. We were impressed with Cam’s eye for detail and commitment to achieving a high-quality finish in every area of our home. Cam coordinated all the sub-trades to get quotes for our insurance claim, and then again when he managed our repairs and rebuild. This removed a huge amount of stress for us. He was patient as we worked through all the options and requested changes to the original plan. We couldn’t be happier with the finished product and would highly recommend CJS Carpenters to anyone embarking on a build or renovation project.” – Matt & Rach
